Community Suggestions

Here are some ideas we're exploring. Please let us know what you think!

Free Lending Library

Would you like the Association to build a free lending library for our park?

You might have seen wooden and weather-proofed boxes erected curbside on private property where gently used books are offered for free on a "take one, leave one" system?

A PCA member suggested our community might benefit from such a "library" but do you agree? If enough of our members say "yes" then the Association could approach the Town for approval to have such a library erected in our park and the details could then be discussed.

Perth Town Councilor, Gary Waterfield, has been approached about this proposal and is fully supportive. Here are his exact words:

"I strongly support having a Free Lending Library in Perthmore Park. This offers citizens the opportunity to exchange books free of charge. This would be an additional feature  which enhances the park being a community hub."

Gary Waterfield,  7th December 2025

Thank you, Gary, and we hope your fellow councillors will feel the same?

But we still need to solicit sufficient support from the PCA membership in order for the PCA to approach the Town with our proposal.  Could anyone reading this therefore please "Contact Us" with your viewpoint? Thank you!

Quieter Train Bells

Would you like the Association to advocate for reducing the noise of transiting CPKC freight trains from whistles to bells?

Apparently many years ago Canadian Pacific (since merged with Kansas City) gave the Town Council of Perth two options of announcing a train's transit through town. One option was the whistle and the other was the less noisy bell. We know that the whistle was chosen because Perthmore residents regularly complain about the noise, particularly when heard in early morning hours.

The Association has agreed that the whistle is annoyingly loud but felt it was impossible  to change now. But, maybe we can try again?

If you would like us to try then please so indicate as we would need to know that we have the backing of the majority of the residents before we approach the Town?

Two points to consider:

1) Obviously safety is the major priority and many people seem to think a loud whistle is necessary to warn anyone walking along the track. Particularly if school children are walking with headphones on their ears making them oblivious to other sounds.

2) But maybe bells could be used at nighttime when nobody should be walking along the track?

More Trees

Would you like more trees to be planted in our neighbourhood?

The Town of Perth is committed to improving the environment and promoting positive climate action through the planting of more trees on public property.  The urban canopy has been maintained and increased with a partnership between town employees and a local volunteer group called Our Perth Trees.

Our Perth Trees (OPT) has planted many trees in various Perth parks and Town properties including three saplings planted in our Perthmore Park. One sapling can be seen to the right of the picnic shelter while another can be seen further back. Do you want more? Perhaps more trees could be planted on public land running along Perthmore Street down to County Road 10?

If you agree, then please contact our Association or OPT directly on their website, https://www.ourperthtrees.com/

By the way, OPT periodically conducts seedling sales to raise money and to expand the planting of trees on private property. Please check out the OPT website for details  as we can always do with more trees!
